Ding! at Outpost from Clocktower

Listen here:

http://clocktower.org/drupal/play/13042/show/ding-a-concert-of-chimes-bells-gongs

Truly an honor.

Heavy and Fun.

Percussionists Shayna Dunkelman, Fast Forward, Jake Nussbaum, Pat Spadine, and Tim Spelios in a 90-minute free session for metal instruments recorded live in concert at Outpost Gallery in December 2015. Trippy, funny, soothing, and deeply beautiful.

With over 100 instruments on hand, and some special chimes and handmade xylophones from David Horvitz and Skip LaPlante on loan, the five performers roamed the space freely exchanging sounds and musical messages using all. Bells, cymbals, toys, pots and pans, Tibetan bowls, a semi-truck wheel hub, a bucket of bottle caps, and some surprise interruptions, made the night.

As a kind of radio experiment, we have mixed two recordings of the event. One microphone was placed 15 feet above and the other at eye level, about 50 feet apart. The result is a time/space/sound warp, with a synchronization crossfade that meets in the middle and multiplies the magical illusion.

Recorded live in concert at Outpost Artists Resources in Ridgewood, Queens on December 22, 2015 as part of their ongoing concert series.

The Firehouse Space Commissions for Evolving Projects: Pat Spadine and Daniel Belquer

Feb 28 C jpeg
Feb 28B
Ashcan Orchestra – Cory Bracken, Philip Panos, Tim Rusterholtz, Austin Vaughn, Jeff Tobias, Pat Spadine
Coming to grips with it’s own technophobia, the Ashcan Orchestra will be presenting works composed for a new series of instruments constructed during investigations into the balancing of automation and human performance. Ranging from electronic to mechanical, Ashcan has been building new soundmakers and interfaces as a search for a toolset which can enhance the available resources for composition and capabilities of performance, without sacrificing the qualities of human personality and error inherent to it’s music. Beyond their sonic influence the instruments have also extended their presence to new systems and compositional techniques gathered during their engineering and employed in the new works.
JACOBZ LADDR is a technospiritual ritualistic intermedia performance where the ladder is used as a metaphor for heightened states of biophysical connectivity based on the controversial assumption that our DNA can be reprogrammed through vibrations. Words, digital interactivity, voicing, music, video, light and live performance are intertwined to construct a momentary bond with the audience celebrating the now through consciousness and presence.
Directed and Conceived by Daniel Belquer
Choreographed by Joe Waltz
Performed and developed by Daniel Belquer, Matt Fidler, Mike Sperone and Kevin Ramsay
Featuring Hans Tammen, Malik Crumpler and Murilo O’Reilly (specially from Rio)
Light design by Daniel Belquer and James Cao
Videos and cards design by James Cao
Software design by Daniel Belquer, Mike Sperone and Kevin Ramsay
With the kind support of Eventide Inc. and Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center

the Ashcan Institue for Self-Organising Pattern Reseach

Now Showing at Big Law Country Club (located in Silent Barn 603 Bushwick Ave) until July 17th.

Some stills from the exhibit to entice:

Building upon Ashcan’s fetish for unprocessed quirks in physical reality, it is presenting a glimpse into the recent investigations of the “Ashcan Institute for Self-Organising Pattern Research”. The gallery space at Big Law Country Club is currently transformed into a study on a single specimen “found” during the Institute’s research into analog video feedback. A multitude of moving and still depictions of the image are on sidplay, allowing the visitor to step within and be encompassed by this particular paragon of the astounding weirdness of the physical universe.
